This Beached Killer Whale Was Saved After A 20-Hour Rescue Effort In Argentina
With Chad Ochocinco, World-renowned orca enthusiast, making a visit to Barstool HQ earlier in the week, perhaps it’s no coincidence that this story is making the rounds on the internet today.
All in all, the video is pure feel-good vibes. Kudos to all of those involved in the rescue efforts, which lasted nearly 20-hours and included the use of a backhoe to lift the mammal off the ground and into deeper water. Forget the shocking fact that you can actually drive a backhoe into tidal waters and still use it, the goodness oozing from the hearts of the dozens of people involved in the ordeal is enough to make this video worth watching.
Orcas, also known as “Killer Whales”, are still one of the more misunderstood mammals on our planet, starting with the fact they’re actually the largest member of the dolphin family. They got their reputation as killers after fisherman and whalers back in the day witnessed them attacking and killer other whales, including the ones said fisherman and whalers were trying to hunt themselves.
Although they’re still considered endangered in a handful of the regions they call home, orcas have benefitted from positive exposure in the entertainment industry and people are finally starting to realize just how vital it is that we let these fascinatingly intelligent creatures live their lives undisturbed.
The 90’s kid in me would probably kill itself if I didn’t mention the cult classic, “Free Willy”, and the absolute masterpiece of a theme song performed by Michael Jackson. If this shit doesn’t put you in a good mood, I’m not sure what will.
If you’re still looking for some orca content and also like conspiracy theories and hard-hitting documentaries, check out the trailer for “Blackfish” as well. This documentary will make you want to go to Sea World and fight the entire staff.
